Teach the “stop” or “quiet” command by gently reprimanding your pet when he begins to bark. Make sure you are firm, but not aggressive when teaching “stop” or “quiet.” There are also dogs that bark the minute you leave the premises. This type of barking can be horribly annoying. If you determine that your dog barks when you leave, try leaving and then hiding. As your dog continues to bark, throw a bag of coins in his vicinity to get his attention. Tell him “no” and try leaving again. If the barking behavior begins again, follow this same hiding and attention-getting tactic. Your dog will eventually understand it will be painful to bark.
